Here’s How to spend the perfect long Weekend in Lynton & Lynmouth according to someone who lives here..

  • Arrive at Retreat reception, chat to our team about amenities, local walks and get your bearings. 
  • Get checked in, unpacked and settled in your own time.
  • Explore and take a wonder around the Retreat, whether you’re camping, Glamping or checking into holiday accommodation you can enjoy stunning views from pretty much anywhere around the Retreat!
  • Jump into your hot tub, hot and ready for arrival from 4pm (if your accommodation includes this)
  • Drive down to Lynmouth sea front and pick up dinner from Esplanade Fish Chip Bar, we think it’s the best Fish and Chips in the UK! Enjoy al fresco on the Lynmouth Sea Wall or bring back up to park and enjoy from your accommodation.
  • Catch the sunset from the top of the Valley of the Rocks or back at the Retreat, if there’s no sunset just take in the dramatic views or try and spot the wild goats who live there!
  • Take in the dark skies and star watch, Exmoor is particularly great for clear night skies, which is why we ask all our guests to turn off external lights after 10pm and keep the noise down so all can enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
  • Pop down to Reception for fresh coffee and order delicious pastries, croissants and freshly baked bread.
  • Now lace up your walking shoes and walk direct from park down to the Watersmeet river walk.
  • Enjoy a pit stop at Watersmeet National trust house with a Devon cream tea or take your own picnic.
  • Follow the river walk along Watersmeet and head down into Lynmouth
  • Explore the shops and take a historical tour of Lynmouth, explore the harbour, make pebble towers on Lynmouth beach or discover Lydford Gorge water display. 
  • Take the funicular cliff railway up to Lynton and take a walk around this quintessentially British town with it’s quaint narrow streets and victorian buildings, check out Charlie Fridays, a colourful cafe in the heart of Lynton.
  • Take in the dramatic views across Lynmouth Bay and beyond.
  • Take the steep walk back up to the retreat or call the lovely lot at Lyn Valley Taxi
  • Then head out to one of our favourite local restaurants (reservations recommended)
  • Wake up slow.
  • Pop down to reception or the local butchers in Lynton and pick up some locally sourced ingredients to make the perfect traditional full English breakfast and set yourself up for the day ahead!
  • Drive to Woolacombe Beach
  • Enjoy a beach day (dog friendly beach all year round) Try your hand at surfing, body-boarding or perhaps dive into a book or listen or to a podcast. 
  • Pasties for an easy grab lunch
  • Explore the area surrounding Woolacombe, you can take a short walk to Barricane beach if you want a smaller more secluded beach.
  • Sundowner refreshments and light bites at Brundles Bar or head back to Lynton & Lynmouth for dinner. 

Once back at Lynmouth Holiday Retreat, it’s time for an evening chilling in the hot tub for sundown.

Alternatively, make time for some family games, toast some marshmallows on the BBQ, put down your screens and just enjoy being surrounded by nature.
