The annual Polperro Christmas Lights Switch On is taking place earlier than normal this year and is confirmed as Saturday 30th November 2024. Lanhydrock House, another splendid National Trust property, is an ideal spot for festive family outings. The house is adorned with olde-worldy decor, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere throughout. The Victorians were responsible for making many of the customs we enjoy at Christmas popular. They revived old traditions, such as singing Christmas carols and bringing greenery inside to decorate our homes. They also invented a variety of Christmas traditions – from crackers to sending Christmas cards, and beautifully decorated Christmas trees.
The 10ft tree Christmas tree in the hall is striking, and you can see the table laid for Christmas dinner – complete with menus from 1887.Visitors can soak in the history as they explore the beautiful rooms, admire the grand Christmas tree, and enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch in the historic dining room.
