Had a very nice meal in here one evening in a lovely room with some interesting decorations. I had to use chat gpt twice to find out more about the ships bell hanging up and the word “panurgic” on a big wooden sign on the wall which was a word i had never heard of.

The ale was also very good.

Another standout was the service. There was one solitary waitress/barmaid on duty all the time i was in there. She was buzzing about everywhere serving tables and serving drinks it was very impressive to watch. She did all of this with a beaming smile and i hope her employers appreciate her.

Nice pub, bit of a clicky feel with locals and staff but food was good and attached to our hotel so can’t complain. Bit of a ‘dog’ smell and feel about the place, liked the games and historic touches. Would visit again but not make a special effort.

This is a great pub / restaurant. We have been visiting for some years whenever we are in the area, which is about 5 times per year. Staff are always very friendly and chatty. Staff are always polite and chatty to our children too. Our son in autistic and can be very loud at times, we have never been met with anything but kindness. During a visit last year our son had a huge meltdown and refused to walk past a piece of artwork installed into the pub. Staff opened up an alternative door so we could exit without upsetting him.

The food is always great with lots of options on the menu. Including a children’s menu too!

There are a great selection of beers and spirits and even a treat for the dog!

The ancient mariner is like an old friend- when it’s cold and rainy outside or the sun is beaming down, the ancient mariner is a welcoming hub of exactly what you need.

Lots of different artefacts to look at around the pub and a very cool marine style decor including resident octopus!

I will always recommend to friends and family visiting too

The staff here were amazing. We had asked to have a table for two with a dog and toddler and a visable view of the Rugby. They were more than accommodating, we were 30 mins late and they still proceeded to seat us in an area we requested. Throughout the evening they were friendly and accommodating despite being busy for Valentine's weekend. We highly recommend both the food and the high level of service. Thank you Joe for being so kind.

We were wandering round town and decided to give this pub a go for lunch. Glad we did. Friendly barman and warm welcome with some quirky decorative touches. Two of us had burgers and two steak & ale pie, which we understand were made with locally sourced beef. We all enjoyed the food.

Don’t listen to the negatives. We almost didn’t come in because of a few reviews left by other people but i’m glad we took a chance now!

The food was lovely, the fish great quality (i had a fish pie which was well filled and the veg that came with was well cooked and tasty) The cider was delicious too.

Staff were very attentive— you honestly can’t ask for more! I would recommend!

One of my favourite Wetherspoons.

Very spacious, with a garden roof top where you can sit and look over Ilfracombe. Service was quick and staff helpful. I cannot comment on the food because we were staying at a nearby hotel so we ate there.

From what I could see it looked like the normal, everyday menu served in all Wetherspoons

Cannot fault this place at all. We turned up at around 2pm on a Sunday and had no trouble getting a roast dinner despite how busy it was. The food was incredible. Every bit was cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
