Mouthmill Beach

Dog-friendly

This remote beach is situated on the harsh stretch of coast towards Hartland Point in North Devon. For centuries the fearsome looking jagge

Worth the extra drive, you’ll find a real gem, near Clovelly, Mouthmill is a wonderful rocky beach with waterfalls and striking rock formations to enjoy, such as Blackchurch Rock, the pointed, triangular rock shown in the photo. It’s surrounded by sheer cliffs, while there are also the remains of an old limekiln.
The walk from the car park will take you through Brownsham Woods where you’ll be met with a scene from a fairytale. A trickling stream, dappled sunlight filtered through the trees and – best of all – a carpet of bluebells (in springtime) as far as the eye can see. It’s truly magical.

Mouth mill Beach, well worth the walk from the national trust car park. Not a beach as such but what a fantastic view. We realy do have some great attractions in this country.

Beautiful walk down from Brownham NT car park, through the woods and along the headland. It was a little muddy and lots of steps up but well worth it. Equally stunning walk back via a different route up the valley. This is a more gentle walk and easier to walk down to if you don’t fancy the steps. Just look on the map and you’ll see the path running up the valley.

We visited the beach when the tide was coming in so missed the sand but the kids enjoyed playing on the rocks and exploring.

Definitely recommend a visit to this secluded spot.

Mouthmill Beach is the home of the stunning Blackchurch Rock. In order to get up close and personal with this fabulous piece of geology you will need to check the times of the high tide, as there is a limited timespan to be able to walk all around the rock before the tide comes back in to shore.

A fairly tough walk down from the national trust Brownsham car park takes approximately 45 minutes, but it is worth every step to experience this beautiful beach. A real hidden gem.
