Surf & Stay At The UK’s World Surf Reserve For £50 A Night…
You may know Lynmouth sits inside the UK’s only World Surfing Reserve, one of just four breaks recognised for world-class waves. This autumn, we’re making it easier than ever to base a surf trip here and a weekend or a few days is genuinely all it takes.
Picture two nights tucked into the hillside above Lynmouth Bay, the sea laid out below you and Exmoor rising up behind, for just £50 a night. Wake up to that view, get an experienced eye on the swell, and fit your surf around a proper explore of the local area in between: a walk up to the Valley of Rocks, a wander round Lynton, a coffee from a independent store. This is a trip for surfers who already know their way round an autumnal wave, with enough time built in to enjoy the rest of what this stretch of coast has to offer too.
Your Autumn Surf Base: Heated Glamping Pods at Lynmouth
There’s a particular kind of quiet that settles over Lynmouth once the summer crowds have gone home and this is exactly the season to make the most of it. Our heated glamping pods are the perfect little bolt-hole for it: warm, snug, and close enough to the water that you can be back under the covers minutes after a session, heater already ticking away. Our team’s on site throughout, so you’re never far from a friendly face if you need anything. Pre-order your fresh pastries for the morning and pick up a decent coffee from reception before the water calls, and head to our on-site food truck for something warming once the evening comes around. It’s less about entertainment, more about being properly looked after in a place that knows how to do an autumn stay well.

Surfing Lynmouth’s World Surfing Reserve break
You’ll already know Lynmouth by reputation if you’ve surfed this stretch of coast before – it’s part of the North Devon World Surfing Reserve, one of just four recognised breaks in the UK’s only reserve of its kind. It’s not a beginner’s wave, and it never has been. Getting out to the break and back into shore here takes surfing knowledge – currents and timing that reward experience. But if you know what you’re doing, a winter session at Lynmouth is one of the best-kept stretches of coast in the South West, and you don’t have to travel far from home to find it.
Making The Most Of The Local Area
An autumn stay here is as much about what’s beyond the water as what’s in it. The Valley of Rocks is a proper stomp of a walk, especially with a bit of weather rolling in off the sea, and Lynton’s worth a wander for its shops, cafés and that famous cliff railway.
Take the time to shop local while you’re here, the independent shops and small producers around Lynton and Lynmouth are part of what makes this corner of Exmoor feel like somewhere with its own rhythm, not just a stop on the way to somewhere else.

FAQ: Your Lynmouth Retreat Questions Answered
Q1: Is it only Lynmouth that’s a part of the official Surfing Reserve?
No. Lynmouth is one of four recognised breaks (alongside Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe) within the North Devon World Surfing Reserve – the UK’s first, and the world’s first cold-water, World Surfing Reserve.
Q2: How much do the glamping pods cost this autumn?
From £50 a night for a glamping pod with an electric heater at Lynmouth Holiday Retreat. The offer excludes October half-term dates, check the booking page on our website for full terms.
Q3. Is Lynmouth a good spot for beginner surfers?
We wouldn’t recommend to beginners. It’s a sheltered point and rivermouth break that’s inconsistent and better suited to more experienced surfers. Beginners are usually better off further along the reserve at Croyde or Woolacombe.
Q4. When’s the best time to surf at Lynmouth?
Autumn and winter tend to bring more consistent swell than the summer months, in keeping with the reserve’s cold-water reputation, though conditions can change quickly, so it’s worth checking a local forecast before travelling.
Q5: Is Lynmouth Holiday Retreat dog-friendly for a surf trip?
Yes, the whole park is dog-friendly, from camping and touring pitches through to glamping pods and hot tub lodges.
