Kit Hill Country Park, located in neighbouring Cornwall near the border with North Devon, is a wild and rugged granite hilltop that dominates the East Cornwall landscape with its 400 acres (152 hectares). This natural haven has been shaped by over 5,000 years of human activity, from early agricultural and religious uses to its significant mining heritage. The hill is home to heathland habitats that support a wide range of flora and fauna, making it a wonderful place for nature enthusiasts.
Visitors can explore historic features such as The Quarry, the North Engine Shaft (over 200 metres deep), and South Kit Hill Mine, which opened in 1856 and reached a depth of over 100 metres. A notable landmark is the Summit Stack, built in 1858, which once served a steam engine used for pumping water and lifting ore from the mines.
Kit Hill Country Park is an ideal spot for a family holiday, with picnic areas and open spaces perfect for outdoor play. It is also possible to walk to Kit hill from Tamar View Holiday Park, take the walking route directly opposite the park entrance to join the trail.
